Nikon 50mm f1.8 AFD

The nikon 50mm f1.8 AFD aka the nifty fifty is probably my greatest purchase to date. It is tack sharp and a great small prime to carry around.

Advantages:

  • Lovely bokeh
  • Small and light – i.e your not pointing a huge tele at people
  • F1.8
  • Sharp wide open and VERY sharp by f4

I use a nikon 50mm f1.8 on my Nikon D300 and it feels balanced in the hand. You can pick them up used in the UK for around £75.00 and just over £100.00 brand new.

Take my advice and get one at any of those prices as it is a purchase you will not regret. I have a 52mm filter on mine and at all times. It comes with a lens hood, which feels pretty useless to be honest, but I slap it on if shooting in very bright light.
